It may come as a surprise to learn that equities issued by U.S. companies
account for about 50% of the total. And many international investments may
not be as foreign as they may seem. In fact, some companies that Americans
consider "local" are actually in non-U. S. markets. Just take
a walk down the aisle of a local supermarket, and you'll see products from
such "foreign" companies as Gerber (Swiss); Lipton (Dutch/British)
and Dr. Pepper (British).
More than ever, as formerly closed economic systems open their doors
to free trade and the world's markets become increasingly interrelated,
you may want to think about the benefits of investing internationally.
